Arts4Kids "Tom Sawyer" Theatre Workshop

April 24, 2010

Arts4Kids April Workshop
Tom Sawyer
National Big Read Event

Kingsport, Tenn. (March 1, 2010) –In support of Kingsport’s Big Read Program, the Arts4KidsProgram will be offering a workshop titled “Tom Sawyer” on Saturday, April 24th, from 10-11:30 AM at the Kingsport Renaissance Center Theater. This workshop will feature Mark Twain impersonator Kurt Sutton, along with other theater activities. Arts4Kids Outreach will be at the Riverview Boys and Girls Club on Friday, April 2nd, Holly Hills and Cloud Boys and Girls Clubs on Friday, April 9th, and at Girls Inc. on Friday, April 16th.

Kurt Sutton, the author of “An Evening with Mark Twain” is a veteran award winning stage actor, musician, and writer. He has appeared on stage, television and in movies. Mr. Sutton wrote the play after years of studying Samuel L. Clemens the man. This aspect of bringing Clemons on stage with Mark Twain lends a unique and entertaining twist to the usual depictions of Mark Twain. Most of the material attributed to the character “Mark Twain” actually was biographically Clemens; including his musical talents which Mr. Sutton has made part of the show. The play provides a slice of Americana for the whole family.
