Arts Awards - Arts Council of Greater Kingsport

"Held on a two-year cycle, the Arts Awards is a process and an evening celebrating the achievements of area arts organizations, artists, patrons and sponsors."

"Held on a two-year cycle, the Arts Awards is a process and an evening celebrating the achievements of area arts organizations, artists, patrons and sponsors. The Arts Awards were established in 1997 to recognize Arts Leadership and Distinguished Artists. Nominations from the community are accepted to honor those who contribute to the quality of life in the Greater Kingsport area. Arts Leadership Award: To recognize organizations, businesses, educators, patrons, arts administrators, corporations and volunteers who have demonstrated significant support or participation in activities, which foster excellence in, appreciation of, or access to the arts. Distinguished Artist Awards: To recognize artists of exceptional talent and creativity, in any discipline, who over the course of a career, have contributed to the arts in the Greater Kingsport area and have helped guide and influence directions, trends, and aesthetic practices. An independent panel will make selections based on the materials submitted. City of Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips will select from the nominees to present the Kingsport MayorÌs Special Award. There is no charge to make a nomination. Since 1997 awards have been given for contributions to Music, Visual Arts, Theater, Dance, Folk Arts, and Literary Arts and to honor Volunteers, Individual, Small Business and Corporate Patrons, Students and Teachers. The following individuals and businesses have received an Arts Awards: John A.A. Bellamy, Lenita Thibault, Cynthia Kessler, Don and Joyce Brown, The Rogersville Review, Hibbert-Davis Coffee Gallery, Hillhouse Graphic Design, Marilyn Davis, Celia Bachelder, Sam Collier, William T. Gamble, Bill Turpin, Robert Dean, Burton Bumgarner, D. Lynn Sorrell, B.J. Carruthers, Kenneth Murray, Charlie Meek, Claude W. Kelly, Kingsport Times-News, Eastman Chemical Company, Intermedia, Bristol Motor Speedway, Ashley Bacon, Derek Deakins, Sarah Bumgarner, Michelle Bacon, Reese Toohey, Kathy Hawk, Tammy Porter, Eddie Dalton, Karen Gibbons-Brown, Pat Jessee, Louise B. Dickson, Adriana Dew, Ernest R. ÏDocÓ McConnell, John Huron, Roy Dearstone, Bea Brooks Isbel, Michelle Leasure, Barbara Goodlett, Billie Chesney, Evelyn M. Bales, Louise Ammons, Retta Overturf, Vivian Todd Kingsport MayorÌs Special Award has been presented to Nellie McNeal, Martha Funke, Lillian E. Agel, Louise R. Ammons and Cyrus Ginwala."
